Cong Lam is a 10 year experienced professional tattooist in Calgary, Alberta Canada. With Thousands of people wearing his tattoos, Cong specializes in custom tailored large scale tattoo pieces and is confident in working with many forms of tattoo art.
Apprenticing under James Jacobs, at Enso Tattoo. Cong was trained traditionally in a walk-in style tattoo shop in the heart of downtown Calgary.
After years of dedication apprenticing and in time, graduating to a full time professional tattoo artist. Cong continued to work along side his mentor James and the team at Enso Tattoo, making his mark in the tattoo industry.
“A tattoo is one of the few things in life that we keep forever. As we grow and change so do our tattoos. Marking our skin a moment in our life. The memories of where we were, what we could smell, what we heard and how we felt in our heart.”
In 2020 Cong made the decision it was time to venture out on his own and opened the first Studio Cong Tattoo just outside of downtown Calgary. Within a short amount of time he was able to expand to a larger space with the help of his former apprentice and now professional tattoo artist, Tatiana Stanjeck.
Without the guide of his former mentor, and now a mentor to his own student. The weight of his decisions weighed much more on himself and the people around him
The journey was full of adversity and humbling lessons. Although the path wasn’t always the correct path, the lessons learned and reward of watching his apprentice grow into her own along side Studio Cong Tattoo has been the most spiritually rewarding of this journey.
All our tattoos are unique much like the story of our lives. Every one is shaped through personal experiences. Yet we are all connected through ink.”
To be able to teach what was taught to him and pass on the history of tattooing gave Cong a new connection with his reason why he tattoos.
Long before Cong was tattooing. He was an avid collector of tattoos. Spending hundreds of hours under the needle, covering almost the entirety of his body in ink.
Cong not only creates tattoos for a living -He lives it. An art form, a lifestyle, a culture. Tattoos are who he is and everything Cong has are owed to tattoo heritage and the artists who came up before him.
Every single person who has a tattoo by Cong is part of a family connected through determination, a passion for tattoos and strong mental resilience for the process of acquiring a tattoo.
Cong’s aim is to continue to build the community around tattooing and connect people together through his art. To represent the future of tattooing and respect the deep history of his former mentors who made this dream possible.
